There's a hidden rating, which probably depends only on the outcome of your games and the "average rating" of the people in the game, but we don't know for sure yet... Some people say your kda and gpm are counted for it, but I highly doubt it, as first of all it's something impossible to evaluate, and I never actually have seen any evidence that would support it.
This is just my speculation, but everything in my experience points to this:
The system is the same system they use in chess. Also the same system used in HoN and LoL. Pretty much, when you win a game you get points awarded to you. When you lose, they take from you. If you lose to good people, you lose less than when you lose to bad people (good or bad is also determined by their points). This makes who your matched with largely based off of your short term win rate.
