Yoshi, it was the N-Gage League what you're looking for. They shut down their site in August or so, but it was the exact same as this DC Arena. Enjoyed playing there, but i highly doubt ppl will play here since we have ranked match making now... Maybe if they get some pro players to play here, it might help a bit.
"Karma system" in the old league worked as the ingame commend/report: weekly 6 upvote and 4 downvote possibility, which made the league a complete joke from Monday to Wednesday as everyone was downvoting for everything.
as much as I hate DC. I mite check this out. Might be decent compared to the current valve's ranked system.

That's the one yes, I even used to play 1 match with Vaikiss now that i think of it.
But as you mentioned, overall the Karma system doesn't look so promising, especially since as you said, you'll get down-voted for anything.
If people don't like you for ANY reason in the game, you "risk" to end up with at least -4 karma points, and the next people who play with you and see you've got a negative karma might also follow the trend.

i played 2x one vs one first one was vs some super scrub and second one was vs kinda good player
@ Yoshi You are thinking about N-gage.tv. I'm friends with the guy who help create it and I'm just happy that something like this is going to come out so direct bad behavior can be dealt with.

The biggest con for this though is that Dota cinema is promoting it. Dotacinema is like the casual dota safehaven for nubs.
@ Yoshi I think the karma system is too lenient. You get 10 upvotes a week so that in itself give you +10 karma for your own bad behavior. So that gives 2 games you can mis-behave per week, that's wayyyy too many. If you only get into a flame war with 1 person that gives you like 10 matches per week. So yea if you only manage to get into someone's face every 3 games that balloons to 30 games per week.
People should only get .25 to .5 karma per upvote instead of a whole karma. Which brings us back to the days of dota 2 with that 4x4 nit??? spam.
