Hero Counters in General Discussion

    Hi All,

I've only been playing DOTA for about 3 months...I'm now winning about 55 - 60% of my pub games now, so I'm decent for a still noob player. What I'm wondering if there's a good area/spot to find counters for either heroes I pick or heroes I hate playing against.

I've done 1 All Hero Challenge, so I'm vaguely familiar now with all heroes...but when I pick a hero, it's generally just at the end and I pick based on "do we need a support or carry" and then I pick from the 10 or so heroes I'm getting used to. I don't think I'm experienced enough or know about to say "the enemy team has a lot of melee heroes, I'll pick HeroX as he crushes melee".

Is there something you guys read to figure out what heroes are good counters for other popular heroes and why, or is it just experience and figuring things out as you become more experienced with each hero.

    Cheers

People can give you advice, such as X wins Y or Z in lane, and you can look at what works statistacally (but it won't always be accurate, there are so many variables in dota).

you'll get decent advice for your level if you make a thread like "which heroes is good against X, please explain why"

Try www.dotaedge.com for starters - but you should still try to understand why a hero is a good counter to another and not just use that site forever.

Perfect...thanks guys, I'll check Dotaedge. For example, I like Luna...so I just want to avoid picking Luna when certain heroes are picked as they're great counters for her. I just want to improve and either avoid picking heroes I like because great counters are already there, or if there's a great counter for an opposing popular hero that my team hasn't already picked.

I just don't even have more than 15 games with any hero, most under 5, so if I get crushed by sniper with Luna once, I'm not sure if it's because Sniper is a great counter...or the guy was just a lot better than I was. I just want to avoid as many noob mistakes as I can.

We just released an updated hero and facet statistics page featuring more data and advanced filters. Oh, and it supports Turbo!
