Can pubs improve your DotA skills?

I don't really get the question cus for a huge majority of dota players all they play is pubs.

Help you improve as opposed to what, playing with a group of friends every game? Both stress different aspects of communication in dota. Group play you can hone specific strats cus you're all on one page, work on combos, communication, counter picks etc.

Pubs help you communicate with strangers to win, you have to learn how to win without everyone being on the same page, pick around your team sometimes.
