Banning hero's that normal skill fags get wrecked by is one good reason to play CM. It is why I played nothing but CM when I first started playing ranked. Then when I figured out how to deal with all the cancers in the game I had no desire to play CM so i stopped.
Its actually the opposite of what you state. The more knowledge and skill I gained the less of a reason I had to play CM.

Anthoha, not true in the slightest. At least not for me. Yeah you had some dogshit captains, but when I was 1700 most of the time people just gave you what you wanted and picked whatever for themselves. Also I had very few games where we didn't have 2 supports.
CM was a FAR better experience for me than all pick when I first started playing ranked.
CM was a better experience for me too and I was shitting on kids. But in high 4k and later in 5k que times were so long. 10 mins que, one guy fails to load, que again, 10 mins draft, guy DC so pause and then win/lose in 25 minsSo I gave up on CM. Is there any way to see win rate in games where I drafted? Pretty sure it's 60%+.
The first time I played CM in ranked the guy picked 4 cores and I didn't have a place to farm. I abandoned tha game. So if this is a legit thing that CAN happen, I'll just play all pick so that I have more control, at least over the 20% of the draft instead of 100% or 0%.

CM is ok in normal skill, you can create a team of hard to kill heroes. that usually works.

Yeah, that's my overall WR in CM. I want to see the win rate in games in which I was the captain.
Normal skill player who enjoys CM and especially being captain. Reasons:
1) You can ban heroes you or your allies normally die to.
2) If you can play all the heroes, you can create a massive advantage for your team because you can fill whatever role no one else on the team can play while the enemy may lack a crucial role.
3) If you understand the 2k meta and how most players never vary item builds and are bad teamfighters, you can use pick/ban to force enemies to play unfamiliar heroes or play into bad matchups (because the enemy can't play 5k meta heroes that function as true counters).
4) Due to the above factors, you can draft extremely greedy synergy drafts that the enemy is too ignorant to ban / counterpick (because you banned all the counterpicks). In-game, you will win because the enemies are usually too rigid of players to build counter-items.
5) Foreign language practice. Also good for identifying which DotA players on your team are "team players" and which aren't (which is useful in ranked play and in real life), letting you practice drafting around not only the hero pool, but personality of the teammates.
As the captain and drafter, it's my job to keep my team happy and set the example of teamwork for everyone to follow. Bad captains draft without ever asking the team.
All they would need to do is force players to rate(simple 1-5 stars on their satisfaction with the captain) their captain BEFORE the game starts, but after the draft, and give captain to the highest rated player each game.
