@Op- the higher the price of the item, the less stat/dmg/as per unit gold it gives. Kitrak did the calculation for u above.
That's the point, inventory space is precious (hence why I love boots of travel on SF and a lot of heroes this meta, especially cause BoTS got buffed two patches ago, while other boots just seem to keep getting nerfed)
Anyways, if you could have unlimited item slots, Iron branch would be the best item in the game going off price to power ratio.
Basically what yorkey said.
Inventory space is a limited good, which is why you have to pay a premium to optimize the item into a single slot.
It's not true though, Demon Edge is the second best damage/gold item in the game, only behind Blades of Attack, but nobody seems to mind it. It should go back to giving 36 damage, or 40 at most.
OPs logic
Damage = Skill = ez win
Stats = less damage but youre tankier and faster = less skill = autoloss

Normally doesn't the item with more agility cost less per point of agility? It makes sense to be cheaper when you buy in bulk.
Just like the 3800 gold Relic costs less per point of damage than the 2400 gold green sword thingy?
